Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Pennington Biomedical Research Center compared various diets in 811 obese people over a period of two years. What they found was very interesting. Click http://caloriecount.about.com/popular-diets-tested-compared-b273305 to read which plan works best.

Slimfast works for me.
Weight watchers worked for me at one time.
Moderation is the only thing that has ever worked for me when I wanted to lose a few pounds. Eating in moderation along with excerise in moderation was the only thing gives me the best results. Pilates and 30 minutes on the eliptical 3-4times a week helps me maintain a healthy weight. It isn't very time consuming either. I notice a difference after 2 weeks if I stop that regime.
Although I know it's not a long term solution, low-carb does help drop the pounds quickly. I've tried to do a modified low-carb diet for a long time, and the less I follow it, the more weight I've gained. I know the key is healthly eating and exercise, so I am trying to do both. However, in order to help facilitate my weight loss, I am trying to eliminate excess carbs. When I follow it strictly, it works for me, but I agree it is not a good long term solution since it is difficult to get the fruit you need on a low carb diet. Finding low carb veggies is not a problem. "30-day low carb diet solution" is a book that gives instructions on how to do low carb if you're interested. The first time I did it, I lost 10 pounds the first month, 5 more lbs after 2 more months and another 5 lbs six months later.
I have used Weight Watchers before and found the point system complicated for the first few weeks, but got easier as I went on. I read good things about the South Beach Diet too.
Reduce Calorie intake and excercise! I also eat my fruit before I eat my main meal. That way I start to fill up on the healthier fruit before my main meal which may not always be quite as health for me.
If you eat 2 or 3 (or worse, one!)meals a day, break up the amount of food you eat now into 5-7 smaller meals throughout the day. This alone will keep your blood sugar levels lower and increase your metabolism. Try to keep the carbs low and protein high. Drink a TON of water. Not eating enough is the worst thing you do...
The SCA Walk-Fit Program worked for me as well as cutting back on sweets and portion size. I only lost two pounds a month but I did not suffer and the pounds seem to stay off.
